Slow Down and See the Marsh Through a Birder’s Lens

Charleston’s estuary is home to an incredible diversity of birdlife. Join us on a boat excursion that’s all about birds. Whether you’re a lifelong bird enthusiast or only mildly interested, we guarantee you’ll love finding and learning about some of our feathered residents!

Our Birding Excursion is a calm, naturalist-led experience designed for guests interested in birds, habitat, and respectful wildlife viewing. This is a quiet tour focused on observation rather than movement.

Species vary by season, tide, and time of year.

Bird Key

Bird Key is a small island just off Folly Beach, SC.  Beginning around March thousands of birds arrive, build nests, lay eggs, and raise their chicks.  This is a fantastic opportunity to get a glimpse of the lives of these wonderful animals.  Humans cannot set foot on the island, so we stay on the boat and maintain a respectful distance so as to not disturb the residents.

This tour is typically 1.5 hours long and run first thing in the morning.

Species we often see include:  brown pelican, black skimmer, oystercatcher, willet, sanderling, different sandpipers/plovers depending on the season, terns, seagulls, and herons/egrets on the ride over.

**Chicks often don’t appear until June.  We will update when we have confirmed sightings.  Until then this will still be a bird oriented tour with whatever species we find!**

Ethical, Habitat-Focused Birding

We emphasize:

  • respectful distance
  • habitat awareness
