Step Back Into Deep Time Along the Lowcountry Coast

Charleston’s beaches hold stories millions of years old — if you know how to read them.

Our Fossil & Shark Tooth Expedition is a naturalist-guided experience focused on understanding coastal geology, erosion, and the ancient ecosystems that once existed here. This is not a drop-off style hunt. It’s a slower, more intentional exploration designed to help guests learn what they’re finding — and why it’s here.

This experience is tide- and condition-dependent, and routes vary to protect sensitive habitat and ensure the best possible exploration window.

A Thoughtful Approach to Fossil Hunting

We will learn:

  • how to identify real fossils vs shells
  • responsible collecting

  • beach stewardship

  • why timing and erosion matter

  • how barrier islands constantly change

Your guide stays with the group throughout the experience, providing context and answering questions as curiosity sparks.

Who This Experience Is Best For

  • Curious families

  • Kids who love treasure hunting with meaning

  • Adults interested in geology and natural history

  • Guests who prefer learning and moving slowly

This experience is not designed for quick drop-offs or guaranteed finds (although we think we do pretty well 🙂) — it’s about discovery, not volume.

Note: Be prepared to walk at least 2.5-3 miles round trip to get to our hunting destination.
